Business that have lost their accreditation

The list includes each company’s legal name, the date on which its accreditation ended, and the administrative region in which it is headquartered. Businesses on the list are no longer authorized to build and sell new residential buildings under the Regulation respecting the guarantee plan for new residential buildings.

Safeguards under the mandatory guarantee plan do not apply if a business signs a contract without having a valid accreditation. However, buildings subject to the mandatory guarantee plan are still covered by GCR if they were built by a business that signed a contract with a buyer while its accreditation was active.

GCR can withdraw a company’s accreditation for a variety of reasons. Three common causes are the business not meeting the financial requirements set out in the Regulation respecting the guarantee plan for new residential buildings, not producing the financial guarantees or documents requested by GCR, or improperly managing buyer claims.

In addition to this list, GCR encourages buyers to consult its Accredited Business Directory to be sure that the business they select to build their new home is accredited, as required by law. The Directory also includes additional useful information, like the total number of units built by the business that have been inspected by GCR over the past two years, the number of confirmed non-compliance cases and the number of claims that GCR has recognized for each business.
