KEY CHANGES TO THE QUEBEC CONSTRUCTION CODE

A new version of the Quebec Construction Code — Chapter I — Building, reflecting the National Building Code of Canada 2015 and changes in Quebec, came into force on January 8, 2022, with an 18‑month transition period.

Garantie de construction résidentielle (GCR) has created the Key Changes to the Quebec Construction Code document to support contractors and encourage improvements to residential construction quality in Quebec. The document is intended to make work easier for contractors building new dwellings by providing clear and concise information about the new version of the Code. The changes outlined here apply to dwellings subject to the Guarantee Plan for New Residential Buildings.

Data sheets will be published on each of the topics at a later date, along with technical details to answer your most pressing questions.

NOTE: The regulatory part of this document was approved by the Régie du bâtiment du Québec. In the event that this document conflicts with existing regulations, the latter will prevail.
